On Saturday, a gunman attacked Donald Trump while the candidate was speaking at a rally in Pennsylvania. Mr. Trump was injured and a rally attendee was killed before police killed the gunman.
We at the Racket News want to take a moment to make clear that we condemn the attack with no reservations, ifs, ands, or buts. This is not complicated. Murder is wrong.
We also condemn those who are jumping to conclusions about the shooter. As yet, we have seen no confirmation of a motive. While it is tempting to assume that the shooting was political, American history is replete with assassinations that were carried out by people with mental problems and delusional motives.
There is also no evidence of a widespread plot at this point. If the shooter did have accomplices, they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, but Trump opponents and Democrats should not be tarred with the same brush as the shooter without evidence.
Going further, political violence in general is wrong. Saturday’s attack was not the first violent incident that America has experienced in recent years. It can be difficult to denounce violence carried out by those on one’s own tribe, but again, this isn’t difficult. Political violence is wrong. Full stop.
We are heartened by the response from President Biden and former Presidents Clinton, Bush, and Obama as well as the near-unanimous condemnations of the attack across the political spectrum. We hope that Donald Trump will make a similar appeal for nonviolence when he returns to the public eye rather than using the incident to further stoke the fires of extremism.
We call on Americans of all political persuasions to renounce violence and pray for peace.
Well said guys, it really is that simple isn't it? Denouncing violence on any level by either party should be a given. But then realistically, this is 2024. Sadly we live in times that are anything but normal. Your pleas were spot on, but don't hold your breath across the spectrum.
Think i'm mistaken? I deleted it when EE's email came to my inbox, but after reading your group response, i went to my trash, opened it and was dismayed to see this foolishness from a reasonable Christian journalist: "Now, the press is blaming Trump for not toning down the rhetoric. The press won’t be happy until Trump is killed."
I would give his crap a hearty Amen, but it would be pure BS. And then people wonder how we got here?
BTW...AMEN to the three of you.
Yes, murder is wrong. Violence is wrong. This is what Donald Trump wrote at 7:36 am today on Truth Social stoking prayer, peace and unity.
From DJT:
"Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and prayers yesterday, as it was God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening. We will FEAR NOT, but instead remain resilient in our Faith and Defiant in the face of Wickedness. Our love goes out to the other victims and their families. We pray for the recovery of those who were wounded, and hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed. In this moment, it is more important than ever that we stand United, and show our True Character as Americans, remaining Strong and Determined, and not allowing Evil to Win. I truly love our Country, and love you all, and look forward to speaking to our Great Nation this week from Wisconsin.
