Intriguing column Steve, and i mean that in a good way. As i was reading it took me back a few years, 45 to be exact. i was a raging alcoholic and entering treatment i found myself overwhelmed by the enormity of quitting drinking and trying to get my life in order. Lots of barriers to overcome but the easiest solution to get my head around was the simplicity of life when embracing the serenity prayer.
After all this time, it's still easy to get caught up in all the noise out there. All the stuff that doesn't matter and that i have no control over. Our lives become much more manageable when we come to grips with those things within reach for us to fix, and to let go off those we can't. I quickly came to appreciate how easy it was if i kept it that simple.
Unfortunately we all become overwhelmed by the abundance of crisis around us, about the craziness of the world we live in. Your column today helped me remember what mattered, matters. It's the stuff right in front us, the stuff we can deal with and that we can manage by simply making good choices.
There are a lot of ways to say you don't like Trump without turning off 80% of the voters we need to win elections. There is also the matter of continuing to provide ammo to the democrats and their allies in the media. PR is part of politics. If bad mouthing Trump is more important to Liz Cheney than preventing the democrats from continuing to destroy the USA, she has chosen the right path. Thank goodness there are no more mean tweets from the White House.
What's a bigger threat to the US: Democratic party policies or the GOP potentially refusing to certify election results that go against them? Policies are inherently reversible, while the attack on our democratic ideals (free and fair elections, and the peaceful transition of power) are not.
I sincerely believe that there were significant voting irregularities in the 2020 election and do not think they were adequately investigated. I will be a skeptic until serious audits are completed. Of course that is an iffy thing because evidence has been destroyed by separating mail-in envelopes from ballots and by other means and the courts refuse to get involved beyond a finding in Virginia and one other state that there were irregularities. I do not know the extent of the irregularities or if they changed the results. In Pennsylvania there were numerous unlawful ballots counted. That's a fact. Do you think that my sincere belief backed up by some facts makes me a liar?
You wrote, "In Pennsylvania there were numerous unlawful ballots counted." How do you know? There were about 10K ballots that came in after election day, but they were set aside and not counted. You can say that mail-in voting is susceptible to fraud, but that's not proof that there was, in fact, fraud. As I recall, the only proven case of fraud was a Trump voter who tried to also vote in place of his mother.
The law that was enacted in 2019 (Act 77) by the GOP-controlled General Assembly, which had no objection to their own measure during primaries but suddenly had an issue for November.
The problem is lack of proof, and audits that were run by GOP personnel that did not turn up any evidence to support that position (see GA). The AZ "audit" will find nothing, because facts are there's no there there.
It pretty much comes down to "I can't believe Trump lost!", which makes little sense in the light of how deeply unpopular he was, and how many races the Dems lost down-ballot. That may be the most insane part of the implication that the Democrats cheated: that they'd do so without also ensuring stronger control of the Senate and House.
These allegations have to be supported by facts, and reality just doesn't support them. The efforts to make voting more difficult do nothing to make ballots more secure: it's just an effort to discourage people from voting (which a 3.5% reduction in votes across the board in GA would have resulted in a Trump win).
Still, this has little bearing on what happens in 2022 and 2024 beyond this simple question: do you think that Democratic policies or the overthrow of our free and fair elections is a greater cause for concern?
Frankly, I think you think that the ends justify the means and are more than willing to believe just about anything due to your deep-seated hatred of Democrats. And I do mean hatred.
That was a comparison of ballots on hand with the machine count. Unlike some I do not doubt the machine count. I do question how many of the ballots are valid.

Thanks for helping me remember.

True. Late mail-in ballots were not the problem. The irregularity was the law that allowed mail-in ballots was in violation of the state constitution.
The law that was enacted in 2019 (Act 77) by the GOP-controlled General Assembly, which had no objection to their own measure during primaries but suddenly had an issue for November.
True. Still in violation of state constitution.
What irregularities? Be specific.

And: sincere belief in a falsehood makes one foolish and deluded.
Yeah, I agree. Where's the falsehood?
That Trump lost due to fraud.
See Pennsylvania case dismissed because if timeframe.
Which one? This? https://abcnews.go.com/Politics/federal-judge-rejects-trump-campaigns-pa-lawsuit-prejudice/story?id=74340354
No. The one brought by GOP legislators before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
Scott...let’s keep it civil. I had to delete that comment.
There has not been a proper investigation. Give a source and I will read it.

Also: isn't it more important to win votes with ideas than lies - or does all that matter is winning?
Given that there are liars on both sides I will go with the ones that have policies I like.
