Hi, it’s Friday and I was wrong. About the horses, the Lipizzaners. They are from Spain, not Portugal. I stole that from the final scene of “Crimson Tide”, one of my favorite movies. You can’t go wrong with Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington, but I wish I was talking about submarine movies where nuclear war is imminent, because it would be more uplifting than this post. Instead, I’ll pivot to great literature, namely A Tale of Two Cities. I thought Trump 2.0 was about MAGA, but it’s not.

The meat has spoiled. The milk has turned. The nominees have gone from unconventional outsiders to insane, ridiculous, and malicious. Pete Hegseth at DOD, I could stomach, though many I know feel he’s irredeemably pro-violence and even pro war-crimes. Funny how they give a pass to the Cheney family, but we are all entitled to our own hypocrisy. Tom Homan at ICE, I can deal with: he’s a career immigration guy. Stefanik at the U.N.? Amusing if not effective. Zeldin at EPA? Who cares—the EPA in the Trump administration is supposed to do nothing. Noem at Homeland Security? Dogs around the nation are in mortal danger, but it’s not a national security emergency.

You know, I can even swallow Liddle Marco as Secretary of State. There’s been many bad politician senators in that job (for instance, Hillary Clinton). State is an immovable object and even Schedule F is incapable of providing an irresistible force to unseat it. Rubio would be a fly in their soup, at worst.

But I didn’t really believe that the president-elect would nominate RFK Jr. to head HHS. I didn’t believe that he’d name Matt-Epstein-Gaetz to be his Attorney General. I didn’t see Todd Blanche, Trump’s lawyer, as the Number Two guy at DOJ. I didn’t see it because I was proceeding under false premises. I thought the Trump 2.0 administration wanted to at least attempt to govern. But they don’t want to govern. They want to “own the libs 4evah.” These appointments are not only serious, they are the core of what Trump wants. He’s Madam Defarge and here come the guillotines.

In the novel by Charles Dickens, a character named Madam Defarge did a lot of knitting. When she knitted, her stitches encoded the names of aristocrats she intended to have killed as the guillotines did their bloody work. The names, the bloodthirstiness, the burning vengeance against all the elites, this is what Trump wants.

And he’s likely to get it.

I am done believing that there’s some stratagem behind the nutso appointments. That there’s no way RFK Jr. could ever be consented to by the senate, or that Gaetz was being shoved out of the GOP to save face while Trump had other plans. No, friend. These are serious appointments, and Trump will do everything he can to put these people in the positions for which he nominated them.

They are the beginning of a giant middle finger to “the libs.” And the middle finger will be followed up with guillotines. Trump is gonna party like it’s 1794.

Woke folks who burn crosses to make themselves celebrated victims are irritants to conservatives, and proof of how upside down liberal thought has become. Rep. Seth Moulton, a Massachusetts liberal stalwart, got himself in hot water by admitting trans girls (I think that’s the right term for boys who want to be girls) shouldn’t play on female sports teams. Boston Children’s Hospital owes a former employee, a psychologist responsible for evaluating children for gender treatments, $1.9 million because a jury determined she was fired in retaliation for her calls to do more careful evaluations.

Liberal woke thought circles went too far pandering to small but loud constituencies, and promoted social hysteria that is ultimately harmful to Americans. They took a border position that was damaging to our nation and insulted the intelligence and heritage of millions of Americans. They committed political malpractice with President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. And now, after 50-plus years of Donald Trump carefully encoding names into his knitting, he’s got the list ready.

And every person who feels like the “elites” have given them the short end of respect, including Elon Musk, is going to participate in this blood lust. They’re going to revel in the head-exploding idiocracy (as David Thornton aptly called it), and not care about things like governance. It’s not about running HHS, or the Department of Justice, in a useful way. It’s about making liberal heads explode.

Do you really think that a guy who endured mug shots, a trial, a conviction on 34 felony counts, paying hundreds of millions in judgements, two impeachments, and one nearly successful assassination attempt is going to give a freaking crap about senate confirmations? Or Supreme Court rulings? Or if he really had any kind of mandate from what was actually a fairly close election (though it’s clear that the Electoral College and the voters made their choice)?

Trump isn’t out to run the country in any unified way. He’s out to make every aspect of life for people who opposed him, especially the smug elites in government, media, and business, a misery. He wants to hurt them. He wants them to experience psychological pain, economic ruin, and really, he wants them to kneel before him while he gloats over their demise.

How do I know this? Well, until yesterday, I didn’t really know it. I was thinking maybe Trump might still try to govern.

Now, I’m sure it was never the plan. And the people who at their core love Trump are fine with the coming of the Great Terror. There will certainly be an attempt to adjourn Congress and make recess appointments. If that fails, Trump will try again. If that fails, then he’ll find another way. There will be no end to the attempts to put specific people who will burn it all down in positions where they have unlimited cans of gasoline and highway flares.

And when measles is ravaging our schools, and a dozen eggs costs $10, and the Russians are opening their franchises in American cities, the bloodletting will continue. In 2026, Americans will have the opportunity to hand Congress back to Democrats, and they will undoubtedly do so. Then there will be more impeachments. Possibly a conviction, though it’s doubtful. Even if there is, we will have J.D. Vance as president, and he shares the same chips on his shoulder as Trump. It’ll be Hillbilly MAGA instead of Dark Gothic MAGA.

The problem here isn’t necessarily that Americans won’t try to right the ship. The problem is that the division and hate will run so deep that the ship will never get steady. It will go from the Committee of Public Safety to the Revolutionary Tribunal; from Hébertists, to the followers of Bertrand Barėre, to Robespierre. You get your guillotines, and then we get ours. Rinse and repeat.

When the guardrails of our republic are gone, there is no limit to how the resistance, and the counter-resistance will implement their will and get their revenge. Trump’s second term is his vengeance, along with everyone who has had a mouthful of the liberal and woke garbage over the last decade. There was just enough of a rise in the tide against the wokes to put Trump over the edge, and now, instead of just a tide sweeping some of the worst liberal ideas off the map, we have 50 years of personal animus released on the whole nation.

We were worried that America would return to the racism of the 1950s, or the civil war of the 1860s. No, instead, we are getting something far worse: we get to relive the Reign of Terror from 1793. And after that? Hail, Napoleon.
