I posted this just before I read your piece. “ At this point, we’re past speculating whether Trump will have a successful presidency and now speculating whether we’ll reenter the Dark Ages.”
Glad I was nearly done with my second cup of coffee before reading this. Steve many, many of us took trump at his word and tried to warn others. He didn’t want to go to jail and he promised to (be their) seek vengeance. He is everything we dared to think and possibly more. Dictators have never once decided to relinquish said powers on day 2. The coming storm is a hurricane unlike any God has ever unleashed on earth. Hunker down because it can and will get worse. My hope and faith is in God’s infinite mercy and the promise that those who love Him will not feel the coming wrath.
I can't speak for others, but as a bleeding heart lib, nothing close to my head exploding Steve; not even a little bit. I'm enjoying the shit show trump is orchestrating. And to be clear, that is the closest i will ever come to acknowledging he could lead anything. He is proving to be everything i have ever said or written about him; and more.
Let me think about this; the man, the myth, the legend ranted and raved for the past 6 months on the campaign trail. He rambled on about the most nonsensical crap and the crowd cheered. He stopped the show to kind of dance for almost 40 minutes and the crowd cheered. He weaved and mumbled and acted as if Hannibal Lecter was an old friend and the crowd cheered. He vowed to release the criminals that beat the shit out of the Capital police and the crowd cheered. His demeanor and vulgarity on the stage was shocking to normal folks and the crowd cheered.
See Steve, i never touched on the really ugly stuff trump has done, this was just his warm-up act as he campaigned. His voters. even the normal ones amongst us, thought nuh he'd never do that. Really? I always expected the worst version possible. You are spot on, this is just the start...and his followers will cheer with every act of foolishness and vengeance he engages in. Normal people will cringe.
Me? I'm safely tucked in my bubble; away from no matter who the president is, will make little difference. Those of you with kids and grand kids and a hope for a better tomorrow for them (and you), good luck. You have my thoughts and prayers...and we know how much that has helped all the youngsters killed in school shootings.
One can only speculate at the end of 4 years, who will be left cheering?
I'll agree that most libs are not surprised: this was what we were talking about during the election campaign. Now that it's coming to pass, there's only two things to do: either find ways to prevent as much harm as possible, or to embrace it.
The only people I see that are surprised or aghast are those who are least informed, though one could argue that is non-partisan.
The Trump transition team is reportedly bypassing traditional FBI background checks for (some of) the appointees, while using private companies to vet candidates.
Hey Steve, that was pretty dark. I am not as pessimistic and a dozen eggs could be less than $2.00 per dozen by the summer of 2026 instead of $10 if we can get the government to allow us to vaccinate our layers against Avian Influenza.

HOORAH! What goes around comes around!

No surprise there, after Jared Kushner couldn't pass the background checks last time.

Vaccinated hens will give our kids autism.
