My money is on Noem. Lake was the frontrunner for me, until it became clear how unliked she was in Arizona.

On the border bill, OK's James Langford has been pushing to get it done, only to be censured by his local state party:

Good comments on VP possibilities except for mentioning most of the females. Nikki Haley would be a good candidate. I like Noem but she lacks a national perspective. The others are a bit fringy except MTG to west Georgians like you (joke intended).

Regarding the border, I believe a few more restrictive conditions such as lower thresholds for closing the border, and faster resolution of asylum claims, and provisions for enforcement of Joe Biden's promises could lead to a true compromise. For ordinary citizens like me, lack of trust in the Administration is the prime objection to what we know so far about the proposal.

The three US military personnel killed in Jordan were all black Americans from Georgia (Carrollton, Savannah and Waycross). I heard they were killed by an enemy drone that avoided being destroyed by following a US surveillance drone back to its base.

I think Haley would be good, just not a good fit for Trump.

On the border, you’re going to have to learn to trust at some point, otherwise it never gets fixed. Data-driven triggers are a good place to start.

I just heard this afternoon that it was a Ft. Moore (nee Benning) unit. I hadn’t heard the details, but that makes sense.

You're correct. Tim Sott would be a better fit for a Trump VP but he would not increase the national vote.

Data driven triggers are a good place to start. I think I need more reason to trust anything from Biden before I learn to do so. More is needed for a true compromise.

Agreed that it's a very draconian bill.

The original ask four months ago was for $14bil for more judges, border personnel, and detention centers. My understanding is that that number will be exceeded in the actual bill.

Greg Sargent has a piece up that makes a decent argument: besides the fact that passing a border security bill would remove the issue from the election, it would also make it less likely that a harsher crackdown by Trump/Stephen Miller could be passed if they were to win.
