It's complicated. Saudi Arabia is playing all the fences; Israel is binging on Messianic extremism; democracy in the Middle East is in jeopardy; Hamas is facing an existential crisis. So, war.
Israel can never afford the luxury of a security or intelligence breakdown. We see the price of that kind of failure. As divided as Israeli politics has recently been, there is no division when it comes to safety and existence. The current government will rise to the present threat, but will be held accountable sometime after the crisis.
Iran has been a bad actor in the region from a US and Israeli perspective since the 1970’s. That is the big picture regardless of GOP or Democrat talking points leading to our upcoming election cycle.
I believe it is in US interest to contain Russian aggression with support to Ukraine. It is also in our interest to contain Iran by supporting Israel right now. All this needs to be done now to avoid a wider world at war. The price of such a wider war will be far greater than support provided in the present.
No argument here with the facts. Biden has poor messaging. Relying on random X posts to explain things is a fail. But the fact remains that regardless of the status of the money, it was released from “can’t spend” to “ok to spend under some conditions” status in exchange for hostages.
Maybe turning Gaza into a hellscape isn't the ideal definition of wining but it will suppress the savages for a decade or two. Fanatical theocracies cannot be trusted. They have an almost unlimited supply of fearless disciples whose mission is to destroy Christians and Jews. They are financed by Iran which deserves every sanction that can be imposed instead of the overtures offered by Obama and Biden. Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons. Israel might decide to take out much of Iran's infrastructure.
No if establishing a theocracy is the motivating factor but retaliation is called for. Some would say vengeance is the Lord's, but I think Israel is justified in administering a harsh educational response.

Doesn't matter to the GOP what the facts are: Blinken goes on CNN and says the exact same thing, and soon after McCaul is still lying about it.

Iran does not have control of the 6bil, only just "received" it a couple weeks ago, and this action by Hamas has been planned for much longer.
Iran has a $400bil GDP: they spend it on weapons. The 6bil that can only be spent on medicine/food/etc... doesn't factor into that equation.
Steve B says: Money is fungible.

But if the cost is turning Israel info a fanatical theocracy, is that winning?

Edited to actually respond to Steve's question.
