No “boots on the ground” were necessary to defeat Japan. While USA ground forces did take two Japanese Islands, Iwo Jima and Okinawa, there were no Americans sent to Japan until after “unconditional surrender”. The allies allowed Japan to keep their Emperor but required a new Constitution and government, which was a successful “regime change”.

He who controls Kargh Island controls Iran’s economy. He who controls Iran’s economy dictates what moves into and out of the Persian Gulf. If the US were to control by occupying Kargh Island, Iran could not dislodge the occupiers without destroying their economy and themselves. Checkmate Mr Thornton , Checkmate.
